【Abstract】The rise of Internet and information technologies have changed the way we communicate, work, do business, buy, sell, and socialize: it has impacted virtually every aspect of our lives. These technologies have also fundamentally transformed how “Information” is managed within large and small, private and public organisations. Information is arguably the most valuable asset of any organisation. Its management, from information collection to storage, analysis and dissemination impacts how knowledge is created and how business is done. It is no accident that while Information Management is a relatively new formal field of knowledge, it has an informal millennia-old pedigree. The role has existed at different levels of organisations and under the ultimate custodianship of the big boss, the managing director or the CEO. Over the recent decades several roles have emerged to assist the CEO in how information is managed within an organisation. There now exist Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Digital Officer (CDO), and Chief Data Officer (CDO) among several similar positions depending on the organisation’s main area of business. As information technology is central on how information may be managed, it is natural that the role of information management evolves to a strategic role that is essential to an organization’s competitive advantage. Therefore, whereas in early days a CIO’s focus was on “technology”, “information” now comes to dominate the focus. A CIO/CDO role must now be best defined by its core: Information. Other This seminar explores these functions and roles of information management and how this field may be better analysed. We will address issues such as:

- Cloud computing and storage

- Information processing

- Broadband telecommunications and Internet of Things

- Data Mining

- Social media, analysis and marketing

- Changes in organisational and industry structure
